Angelika Ruggiano was a sharpshooter as she converted 3 of her 4 three-point shots to keep the Cardinals close to the Dolphins. CSI’s “live by the three, die by the three” motto was in full force in the first half and they were on the ladder side of that motto as they shot just 3-15 from beyond the arc.
Megan Myhre led the nation in three’s made per game last season struggled in the first half as she was only able to make 2 of her 9 attempts from long range. CSI jumped out to an early 18-9 lead over the Cardinals however York was able to close the gap in just one minute via a pair of three-point shots from Angelika Ruggiano. The Cardinals would never let the Dolphins get in a groove and stretch the lead in the first half and matched everything the Dolphins did. The first half was so evenly matched that the game was tied seven times with two lead changes.
The second half however paints a completely different picture. Coach Tim Shanahan must’ve gave his team an inspiration speech as the Dolphins came out in the second half and lit up the floor scoring 52 points on 49% shooting.
CSI came out in the second half and within the first five minutes found themselves up seven points. Samantha Flecker had a huge part in the second half explosion midway through the second half when she came in for Megan Myhre and caught fire almost immediately. Just 10 seconds of Flecker being on the court she found herself wide open for a corner three which she cashed in. Flecker would go on to score six more points in a matter of two minutes before eventually cooling off.
Nikki Fabozzi limited York’s second chance opportunities and as she grabbed 7 rebounds and dumped in 11 points of her own.
The Cardinals were unable to keep up their hot shooting from three-point range as they dropped from 56% in the first to just 37% in the second. Tamika Taylor led the way for York with 21 points and 10 rebounds with 31% shooting.
