The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team takes to the road tonight to take on City College of New York in yet another CUNYAC matchup in New York, NY at 7:00 PM.  The Dolphins have had a lot of success against the Beavers as of late as they have won the last eight meetings and lead the all-time series 49-7.

Khalil Hamer and the Beavers return home seeking a bounce-back performance tonight after dropping a tough CUNYAC game against Lehman College, 51-68.  With that loss the Beavers fell to last place behind Medgar Evers College (1-9, 0-4) in the CUNYAC.  The Beavers’ loss can be attributed to their poor shooting from three-point range as they only managed to convert 5 of their 22 attempts.

CCNY has averaged just 70 points per game this season and have had trouble on defense as they are allowing opposing teams to pour in an average of 77 points per game on 48% shooting from the floor.  One bright spot for the Beavers is their free throw shooting, they sit in second place in the CUNYAC with 74%.  If they can find their way to the line against a strong Dolphins squad this game can be a close one.

The Dolphins (6-4, 3-1) will look to keep the momentum from their huge 78-74 victory over top of the table Brooklyn College (10-2, 4-1) which gave them their first CUNYAC loss of the season and snapped their 10 game win streak.  Tonight’s game will be the second of five CUNYAC games over a six game span and CSI will look to climb to the top of the table to defend their regular season title.

Junior forward, Will Fonseca, ranks first in the nation in double-doubles with 10 through 10 games.  Fonseca will look to lead CSI to their second straight win with help from sophomore guard, Frank Schettino, who currently leads the nation in assists per game (8.0).  Fonseca and Schettino combine for 46 points per game as they average 26.4 and 19.3 respectively.

CSI doesn’t seem to have much trouble when they head to the Nat Holman Gymnasium as they have won 22 of 27 matchups when they play there and will look to make that 23 wins tonight.
