The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team is slated to take on the Cougars of Medgar Evers College this afternoon at 1:00 pm here at the CSI Sports & Rec Center.

The last time these two teams met was on February 18, 2014, at the CSI Sports & Rec Center where the Dolphins convincingly defeated the Cougars 111-65.  CSI is 59-17 all-time against Medgar Evers with a 28-7 home record. The Dolphins have won 9 of the last 10 games against the Cougars with the two most recent games coming by 30+ points.

The Cougars have been struggling this season and come into this afternoon’s game with a 2-12 overall record.  However, Medgar Evers is coming off of a huge 67-61 CUNYAC win over John Jay College which broke their 11-game losing streak.  The tandem of Matthew Walker and Valin Williams will look to make an impact in this afternoon’s game as Walker leads his team in points per game while Williams protects the boards and limits second chance opportunities as he grabs 11.8 rebounds per game.

The men got redemption in their last outing against York College who beat them in the CUNYAC final last year.  The much anticipated game lived up to the hype as it was extremely competitive and was close until the end when the Dolphins were able to stretch their lead.  Will Fonseca has now been held under 20 points for the second game in a row and only the fourth time all season and he will look to bounce back and get back to his average of 25 points a game.  Thomas Delahanty has picked up some of Fonseca’s points as he increased his points per game from 4.9 to 9 per game.  Delahanty has made a big impact on both sides of the ball and will look to keep that up this afternoon.
