The College of Staten Island men’s volleyball team will take part in their first ever multi-match today against perennial CUNYAC powerhouse No. 10 Baruch College and City College of NY. No. 10 Baruch will come into this afternoon’s game with a 2-1 overall record while City College of NY will come in with a 1-2 overall record.
The 0-3 Dolphins will take on No. 10 Baruch College in their first match of the afternoon at 11:00 am. The Bearcats are coming off of a good 3-2 victory over Ramapo College in which they were up 2-0 before the Roadrunners took two of their own to force a game five. No. 10 Baruch has dominated the CUNYAC as they have won eight of the last nine championships.
Baruch started their season off with some formidable competition, playing against No. 15 Elmira College and No. 1 ranked Juniata College. Chris Kaimis and Nick Smith will be the offensive weapons for the Bearcats as they have 82 kills combine. Kaimis will also defend the net and block any attacks sent his way as he leads his team with 11 blocks.
The Beavers coming off of close match which saw them on the losing side against Purchase College. This will be the second ever meeting between the Dolphins and Beavers as they faced off in the first game of the year. CSI will want to seek revenge for that loss earlier in the season and feel confident they can come away with a win now that they have three matches under their belt.
The Dolphins will need to raise their -.053 attacking percentage if they want to get their first win of the season this afternoon. Brian Sheydvasser will use his brute strength and accuracy to drive the ball at opponents and force them to make mistakes as he leads the Dolphins with 13 kills. Charged with guarding the net, the blocking duo of Kirill Antonov and Danil Kubovitskiy will try to redirect attacks by their opponents and turn them into points for their team in both of this afternoon’s matches.
