The College of Staten Island men’s volleyball squad fell for the fifth-straight time this evening, suffering a 3-0 setback to the College of Mount Saint Vincent as part of non-conference play in Riverdale, NY. Individual scores were 25-7, 25-16, and 25-14. CSI fell to 4-10 overall with the loss while the home Dolphins lifted their mark to 6-4.
A 9-1 run by CMSV opened up an early 3-2 game in the first set, as the hosts were guided by a pair of Tyler Cucullu kills. CSI only would register two kills in the match as a team. The second set was much crisper for the visiting Dolphins, but CMSV was able to keep them at bay, using a 7-2 spurt to open up a 15-7 lead midway through, resulting in a 25-16 final, as the hosts powered to a .611 attack percentage in the second set.
The Dolphins only mustered up a trio of kills in the third set to CMSV’s 11 in set three, as the hosts left little to double, getting off to a 6-1 lead before winning, 25-14.
Mark Palencia and Danil Kukovitskiy had three kills each for CSI, while Brandon Ng led with five digs. For CMSV, Cucullu led all scorers with 10 kills. The Dolphins scored 21 service aces, led by Cucullu, Logan Dickover, and Michael Kochen’s four each.
CSI now has a little break before resuming their schedule on March 3 against Purchase State.
