The Art Gallery of the College of Staten Island is pleased to announce the opening of the first exhibit of the Spring semester: Creative Connections: School of Paris Prints from the Staten Island Museum, running from Wednesday, Feb. 25 to Thursday, Apr. 2.
This exhibition presents 32 prints, borrowed from the permanent collection of the Staten Island Museum, that show the work of some of the most prominent artists active in Paris in the first half of the 20th century, including Picasso, Matisse, Leger, Bonnard, Villon, Gris, and Chagall, among others. The images were created as part of the “livre de artists” genre that forged a close bond between visual artists; writers such as Reverdy, Suarez, Goll, and others; publishers such as Vollard and Teriade; and art book printers. Together they collaboratively created a very special aspect of early 20th-century French modernism. Please join us at our opening reception on Wednesday, Feb. 25. from 5:00pm to 7:00pm to celebrate this creative collaboration between the College of Staten Island and the Staten Island Museum.
