The National Association of Basketball Coaches have made their annual All-District All-Star team selections, and junior Will Fonseca was a part of the list, earning first-team honors for the Atlantic Region.  The announcement comes one day after Fonseca was announced to the D3hoops.com All-Region team.

“It’s an incredible feeling to be acknowledged for the hard work, especially the work we put in prior to the season and during the season in practice hoping to get better,” Fonseca said.  “Especially knowing that people outside of CSI and the CUNYAC are voting for me and are thinking a lot of what I’ve done this year is a very rewarding feeling and it’s a great honor.”

Fonseca seems like an obvious choice for the selection.  The junior shattered the CSI single season scoring record with 732 in 29 games, the highest point total in the nation with his 26.1 per game average ranking third overall in NCAA Division III.  Fonseca added 351 rebounds, good for 12.5 per contest, and a team-high 49 blocked shots.  In CSI’s final game of the season, Fonseca posted 41 points in CSI’s 84-80 double-overtime victory over New York University, clinching the program’s second-straight ECAC Metro NY/NJ Tournament Championship.

“This season and all I’ve accomplished hasn’t fully hit me yet, and it’s because I know the best is still yet to come,” he said.  “As a team I think we are going to be a whole lot better and there is a whole lot farther we can go.”

Cabrini College’s Aaron Walton-Moss won the Atlantic Region’s Player of the Year honor, while The Sage Colleges Brian Barnes won Coach of the Year laurels.  Fonseca was the only CUNYAC representative on the first-team.  Baruch’s Granville Gittens and Brooklyn’ Egzon Gjonbalaj earned second-team honors.
