The Gallery of the College of Staten Island is honored to present the final exhibition of the Spring 2015 semester, La Aguas Libres – Waters of Freedom, an installation by Scherezade Garcia.
As the artist combines a large central construction of gilded inner tubes enlivened by various tags and symbols, with silkscreen prints of the sea, she transforms the Gallery into a metaphorical space signifying the dangerous journey undertaken by migrants as they seek the chance for a better life. Visitors are encouraged to become part of that metaphor by writing messages of their own journeys and aspirations onto luggage tags and posting them on the central structure. The exhibition opens on Monday, Apr. 20 and closes on Saturday, May 16, 2015.
