The College of Staten Island softball squad had a busy week in CUNYAC play last week, and after a 5-1 turn, a pair of Dolphins earned weekly honors by the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  Junior Christina Tufano won her second-straight Player of the Week citation, while freshman pitcher Nicolette Trapani was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week.

Tufano’s numbers have been gaudy, and the junior did not miss a beat this past week, posting an astounding .556 week with 11 RBI and five runs scored in six games.  In a big, 7-1, win over Hunter College, Tufano hit for the cycle, going 4-4 with four RBI.  The homerun she hit was her second of the season.  For the year, Tufano leads all Dolphins with a healthy .464 batting average, 32 hits and 30 RBI.  She is slugging .710 this season and is second on the squad with six stolen bases.

There is no question that freshman pitcher Nicolette Trapani is finding her stride in the circle.  The frosh put up a 3-0 week with a miniscule 1.11 ERA.  In 19 innings of work, Trapani allowed just seven hits, walked five and struck out 29.  Her finest performance came on Sunday against York, where she pitched a perfect game through a shortened five inning, fanning 14 of 15 batters.  For the season, Trapani is now 6-2 with a 3.73 ERA.

CSI is back in action on Monday, continuing their CUNYAC slate with a road doubleheader against Lehman College at 5:30pm.
