The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team will be a part of the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament for the second year in a row, and the Dolphins netters learned their fate this afternoon. The Dolphins will square off against Ithaca College in opening round play as part of the Bowdoin Region (ME) of the tournament. The regional bracket will continue into the weekend with regional champions advancing to the national championship round in Mason, Ohio.
CSI clinched their way to a national tournament appearance by virtue of their CUNYAC Championship won back in late-October. CSI will enter with an impressive 13-4 overall record, having won 10 of their last 11 matches after a 3-3 start to the season. Last year, the Dolphins made their first-ever NCAA National Championship Tournament appearance, falling in the first round to Ithaca, 5-0.
The Dolphins will square off against a powerful Ithaca team on Friday, the same opponent they faced in last year’s tournament. The Bombers won the Empire 8 conference championship and come in with a record of 13-8 overall. The tournament is being played on the campus of Bowdoin College all weekend long in Brunswick, Maine. The winner of the CSI-Ithaca matchup will face Bowdoin, who receives a first round bye. The complete bracket can be found here.
