The College of Staten Island women’s tennis squad got back on the winning track today, scoring a 7-2 win over Hunter College in a CUNYAC rival match.  CSI improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC while the Hawks fell to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the CUNYAC.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubled led by the duo of Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla who won their game 8-6 to continue their undefeated doubles streak. Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnir quickly won their game by a score of 8-3 followed by another 8-3 victory but the tandem of Viktoriya Volkova and Samantha Maizer.

When it switched to singles the Dolphins showed their strength and depth by taking four out of the two courts headlined by Toshpulatova who won 6-2, 6-3 in the no. 2 spot.  Bragerton-Nasert suffered her first loss of the season in a match that went the distance (3-6, 7-6, (8-6) 10-8).

The highlight of last year’s championship match Kushnir, quickly foiled her opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 victory from the no. 5 spot while Mulla followed suit in the no. 3 spot giving the Dolphins the necessary points they need to take the win over their CUNYAC rivals.

The Dolphins will return to action on Tuesday when they take on Baruch College at 4:00 pm here at the CSI Tennis Bubble in Staten Island, NY.
