HATTRICK FROM RUSSO LEADS DOLPHINS TO 11-0 VICTORY OVER YORK COLLEGE

Sophomore defender Kaitlin Russo nets a career high three goals in 11-0 rout of the York College Cardinals.  The Dolphins outshot the Cardinals 38-0 in their third CUNYAC game of the season which took place at the CSI Soccer Complex in Staten Island, NY.  With the win the Dolphins improved to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the CUNYAC while the Cardinals dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the CUNYAC.

The Dolphins (6-2, 2-1 CUNYAC) had a bounce back performance after suffering their first ever loss to Lehman College.  Staten Island dominated the game, splitting possession 80-20 with most of the possession coming in the Cardinals’ final third.

Staten Island, which led 6-0 at the half, scored three of their goals in the opening 11 minutes of the first half.  Samantha Wysokowski once again found herself on the score sheet when she received a pass from Danielle Smith and cranked one far post just out of the reach of the keeper for the game’s first goal.

Russo stamped her name in the score sheet when she found herself alone in the box after she received a threaded pass from Lauren Smith and knocked it far post for her first of three goals.  Krysta Percaccio scored her third career goal towards the end of the game when she stole the ball from the defender and took the goalie on before eventually slotting it home for the games ninth goal.

The Cardinals didn’t have any answer for the Dolphins’ attack power, although they were able to catch them offside 10 times.  Sarah Hilaire made 13 saves in the contest while Kristy Colangelo wasn’t forced to take any action tonight as her defensive line quelled any potential danger.

Goal Scorers: Lauren Smith (1), Danielle Smith (2), Stephanie Rivera (1), Krysta Percaccio (1), Samantha Wysokowski (2), Kathryn Dowling (1), and Kaitlin Russo (3).

The Dolphins are back in action on Wednesday when they take on St. Joseph’s College – Long Island at 7:00 pm in Patchogue, NY.
