Staten Island hit .283 as a team with a 38-33 margin in kills and swept the match from the Bears, 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-19) on October 15 at the CSI Sports & Rec Center in Staten Island, NY. The Dolphins improve to 7-11 with the win while the Bears drop to 5-8 overall.
The Dolphins were superb on the offensive side tonight, as they committed just eight errors through all three games. Selma Kolenovic led the way with 11 kills while hitting .450. Helping Kolenovic reach those numbers was Brittany Minondo who tallied up 25 assists in tonight’s sweep.
Lauren GaNun the strongest offensive weapon at the Bears’ disposal had 15 kills tonight, the match high, while hitting just under .200 at .189.
The first game of the night was the most competitive as the score kept flip-flopping back-and-forth before the Dolphins rallied and scored three straight points to extend their lead. The game was ultimately decided by an error by GaNun who hit the ball into the net to give the Dolphins a one game lead.
The Dolphins were on fire in game two as they hit. 407 as a squad enroute to a lopsided 25-11 victory. Rosamarie Gonzalez was a huge factor in this game tallying a block and five kills hitting .571 all three led her team. CSI jumped out to a big 10-2 lead early on that the Bears were never able to recover from, which sent them into game three down two games and the thirst to steal a game from the Dolphins.
The Bears were looking for revenge in game three and almost had it before the Dolphins pulled away late to bring out the brooms and sweep the Bears for their second win against them this season. Staten Island has now won four of the last five meetings against St. Joseph’s College – BK and hope the streak can continue in the future.
The Dolphins are back in action Monday, October 19 at 7:00 PM against Merchant Marine.
