On the heels of a super week in the postseason, College of Staten Island freshman midfielder Brayan Evo was selected as the ECAC Metro NY/NJ Player of the Week, it was announced yesterday. Evo enjoyed a stellar week as part of the CUNYAC Postseason Championship Tournament which kicked off last week and will finalize on Saturday.

Amidst the torrential rains last Wednesday, Evo helped secure CSI’s biggest win in program history, an 11-0 quarterfinal showdown with Medgar Evers College. Evo was a force on the pitch. He scored CSI’s second and third goals of the game, then added another right before halftime to help CSI to a 5-0 halftime edge. In-between his goals, he served up a beautiful cross that Emmanuel Agboola struck in for a goal as well. Evo finished with a game-high five shots and CSI blitzed MEC, 29 shots to just three.

Three days later, Evo was a dynamo again in CSI’s semifinal tilt against John Jay College, a 5-2 CSI win. Evo sent a sparkling cross that Marcin Klim banged home just three minutes into the game, and later in the first half, he posted a corner kick to the far post that Horatio Reid finished to put CSI up, 2-0. Later, the Bloodhounds would force a 2-2 tie, and Evo connected on a blazing shot from nearly 25 yards out that beat the keeper for a 3-2 lead. It was Evo’s first-game winner of the season, and CSI would add two insurance markers in the closing minutes.

For the season, Evo has seven goals, good for second on the squad and six assists for a team-high 20 total points.

CSI resumes its season in the CUNYAC’s biggest day, squaring off against City College of New York in the CUNYAC Final on Saturday at 4:30pm at Brooklyn College.
