The College of Staten Island women’s softball squad continued its run in Texas on Sunday, but fell to Trinity College (TX) in a doubleheader by scores of 3-1 and 12-0. CSI leveled to 2-2 on the young season, while the Tigers advanced to 5-3.
In the opener, CSI scored first on a double steal as Jacqueline Cautela stole home as Christina Tufano stole second. Cautela earned on base via a walk, was advanced via a sacrifice by Antoinette Galbo and got to third on Tufano’s single. Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for the Dolphins, and Trinity was able to tie in the bottom half of the first inning and then take the lead in the third on a Sarah Paller solo homerun off of Cautela.
Trinity added an insurance digit in the fifth inning to take the win. Kaci Wellik took the win with seven innings of three-hit softball, fanning seven. Cautela took the loss allowing just the three runs on seven hits.
In the second game, Trinity got up early and never looked back, touching starter Samantha Bowbliss for three runs in the first inning. CSI’s offense could not muster much, posting four hits, and the Tigers continued to pad their lead with two runs in the second inning and a six-spot in the third, coasting to a 12-0 final. TU’s Rebecca Berreth went 3-3 with four RBI and two doubles, while Delphina Morales posted the win.
CSI is back in action on Monday afternoon against Austin College. First pitch of the doubleheader is at 4pm (5pm EST).
