If you would like to teach English or conduct your own research project overseas and gain global cultural experience that will make you a more competitive candidate in your field, then the Fulbright U.S. Student Program may be a perfect fit for you.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching assistantships. A candidate will submit a Statement of Grant Purpose defining activities to take place during one academic year in a participating country outside the U.S.
During their grants, students will meet, work, live with, and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and/or daily tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
- Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor’s degree by June 2017. Applicants who have completed a PhD are not eligible for the student program.
- Although there is no minimum GPA, applicants should have a strong academic record to be competitive.
- Additional eligibility (including level of proficiency in the host country’s language) may vary among host countries.

All Fulbright U.S. student grants include: round-trip transportation to the host country; funding to cover room, board, and incidental costs, based on the cost of living in the host country; and Accident and Sickness Health Benefits. In some countries, grants may also include: book and research allowances, mid-term enrichment activities, full or partial tuition, language study programs, and pre-departure and in-country orientations.
The deadline for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016; however, Fulbright applications require a great deal of thought in order to be competitive.
