This summer, we are welcoming our incoming students for the Fall semester at SPLASH: CSI’s New Student Orientation program. SPLASH is designed to help new students become familiar with the CSI campus, its academic programs, and the breadth and depth of our student and academic support services. In addition, SPLASH is also an opportunity to help new students navigate through their initial advisement and registration for their first semester of classes with the overall goal of easing the transition experience to the College community.
We need additional assistance and support for the remaining SPLASH sessions occurring on the following dates:
July 5 and July 6 (Tuesday and Wednesday)
July 13 and July 14 (Wednesday and Thursday)
July 20 and July 21 (Wednesday and Thursday)
July 27 and July 28 (Wednesday and Thursday)
Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 (Wednesday and Thursday)
Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 (Wednesday and Thursday)
Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 (Monday and Tuesday)
Volunteer support is needed on both days of the orientation programs, including assistance with check-in activities on Day One of each event and helping to guide new students through their registration sessions on Day Two of each event. Please see below for more details regarding specific information about each of these activities:
Check-In Process on Day One of each Orientation:
Volunteers are needed to welcome students to CSI and to help check them into the orientation program. Volunteers are paired with a New Student Orientation Leader, and will assist a Leader at a check-in table.
Day One Dates: July 5, July 13, July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10, and August 22
Time: 8:00am to 9:15am
Volunteer Position: Check-In
Advisement Supplement Staff on Day Two of each Orientation:
Volunteers are needed to assist our entering students at the Advisement and Registration workshops. These workshops are essential to our students’ success, and their success greatly, and most
importantly, depends on the supplemental staff that supports both the professional staff and our students. During the sessions, you will assist new students with understanding their New Student
Advisement Worksheet and registering for their general education courses through CUNYfirst. Volunteers are not expected to advise students, but rather to serve as liaisons between the students
and the professional advisement staff. Training and support is always provided to anyone interested in assisting with this important function.
Day Two Dates: July 6, July 14, July 21, July 28, August 4, August 11, and August 23
Time: 11:15am to 1:00pm and/or 3:10pm to 5:00pm
Volunteer Position: Advisement Supplemental Staff
Support from the campus community is needed for each of these activities to ensure the success of these programs. If you are interested in volunteering at SPLASH, please consult with your department supervisor regarding your intent to participate in the orientation activity on the dates and times listed above. After receiving permission to participate, please forward your preferences to email@example.com in the Office of New Student Programs. If you have any questions regarding volunteer assignments, the dates, the times, or the location of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact firstname.lastname@example.org, Director of Recruitment and Admissions.
Thank you in advance for helping to support our new students at CSI.
