RESULTS – The College of Staten Island cross-country sides were back out on the terrain on Sunday, taking part in the St. John’s Fall Festival Cross-Country run at Cunningham Park. Both Dolphins teams finished third among non-Division I schools at the race.
In the men’s 5k race, the Dolphins scored 45 points, good for the bronze behind Essex Community College at 42 points and the winners of New York Institute of Technology with 35. CSI top runner Luke Jackson posted a swift time of 17:04.4, the second-fastest 5k time in team history, just a few beats ahead of teammate Liam McMunn at 17:08.6. They would finish third and fourth in the field, respectively. Khaled Halwani was next with a time of 18:39.8 while Kenneth Morella was next in tow at 19:02.0. Freshman Erik Sanchez’ numbers keep getting better and better with each week as he posted a quality time of 19:24.3, good for 14th among all non-Division I racers. Justin Fernandez was the final CSI runner to cross with a time of 21.12.4.
The CSI women also placed third among non-Division I teams, scoring 56 points, behind Queens College’s 40 points and the winners of New York Institute of Technology which scored 24. In the modified 4k (2.5 miles), CSI was paced by Tristiana Adragna’s time of 17:55.7, followed by Veronica Lorenzo who posted a time of 19:10.4.
Rounding out CSI’s contingent was Kwan Ho (22:47.9), Moet Askew (24:16.1) and Clara Hernandez (25:29.2).
The Dolphins will now be idle until next weekend, when they plan a dual meet with John Jay College at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday morning in what will be their final tune-up before the 2016 CUNYAC Cross-Country Championship.
