The College of Staten Island women’s soccer team took on the Ospreys from Stockton University this afternoon at the CSI Soccer Complex.  The Dolphins and Ospreys played out to a 0-0 tie after both teams had quality chances to put one in the back of the net.  The draw moves the Dolphins to 7-3-2 overall and the Ospreys to 9-3-2.

The Dolphins took to their home pitch and recorded their sixth home shutout of the season.  The Ospreys came out strong in the early half of the game possessing the ball in the Dolphins’ final third.  CSI would find their way back into the game and gain momentum as the game wore on as they have done against quality teams this season.

Once the play turned in favor of the Dolphins, Lauren Smith laced one towards goal and watched it ricochet off of the crossbar and out of bounds for the first near goal of the game.  Jennifer Cosenza nearly put the Dolphins up 1-0 after Krystina Rodriguez curled a beautiful free kick into the box, however a bad touch allowed Nicole Pallante to pick the ball up with ease.

CSI would have their best chance of the game when Rodriguez beat a defender in the box only to be taken out from behind and awarded a penalty kick.  Senior forward Cosenza would step up to the spot to take the penalty.  Cosenza would run up and kick the ball over the goal to keep the game at 0-0.

Stockton would come storming down the field in the second half and almost put themselves up 1-0.  Nicole Mignone had other plans as she came up big for the Dolphins with a huge save at point blank range to keep the Ospreys off of the board.

In the first extra time the Dolphins would litter the Osprey’s goal with shots however, none of them would have the power to find the back of the net. The second extra time saw both teams lock it up as neither team wanted to pick up a loss in the closing minutes of the game.

With both teams now playing for the tie the game would finish 0-0 with the Dolphins and Ospreys tied with 9 shots each.  Stockton dominated 7-3 in corners while also edging out the Dolphins 4-3 in saves.

The Dolphins will return to action on Tuesday, September 11 vs St. Joseph’s College – Long Island at 4:00 pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
