The College of Staten Island men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams collected a pair of weekly award winners last week before the Thanksgiving holiday, as Ewa Wojciechowska and Tim Sweeney won Performer of the Week honors. It came on the heels of a lone meet for the Dolphins against Baruch College on November 18.
Wojciechowska kept her hot start intact, winning a pair of individual awards and lending herself to a top relay team. First, in the 200-meter Freestyle, Wojciechowska came in at 2:22.32, more than four seconds ahead of the field for the win. Later, she swam to a first place finish in the 400-meter Freestyle with a superb time of 5:05.47, better than 17 seconds than the rest of the field. To cap off the evening the junior was part of the 1st place 200-meter Freestyle Relay which put in a race time of 1:52.79, winning the event by 9 seconds.
For the season, Wojciechowska leads the Dolphins with 127 points and 11 top three finishes this season, including a team-best 9 first-place finishes.
On the men’s side of the waters, Sweeney was just as strong. He had the first leg in CSI’s victorious 200-meter Medley Relay, as the CSI quartet came in at 1:58.58. The, he shined in the 200-meter Individual Medley with a time of 2:17.92, winning it by over 10 seconds. To wrap up his night on the individual side Sweeney placed under a minute in the 100-meter Butterfly competition with a first-place finish of 59.10.
For the year, Sweeney leads all Dolphins with 116 points and 10 top three individual finishes, all at first place.
The CSI men narrowly defeated Baruch last week, while the women fell. Up next will be the Dolphins’ participation in the Drew University Ranger Invitational, the weekend of December 1.
