The College of Staten Island women’s soccer squad clinched their second-straight CUNYAC Championship on Saturday and has learned their fate for the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Dolphins will travel to Buffalo, and will take on No. 7 Messiah College. Buffalo State, the host institution, will host Montclair State University in the other opening round game that will take place on Saturday. The two winners face off on Sunday.
The Dolphins are making their second trip to the NCAA National Championship, having made their first trip a year ago and falling to Messiah at their campus by a 6-0 count. It remains the lone meeting in program history between the two sides.
Messiah is a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference, and sport a 17-2 record this season, defeating Arcadia University, 2-0 in the conference’s championship on Saturday, their 15th-straight win. The two teams shared no common opponents.
Host Buffalo State is ranked No. 18 nationally and finished 17-1-2 this season. They defeated SUNY-Geneseo, 1-0m in the SUNYAC Championship. They play a 15-3-2 Montclair State team that fell in the NJAC Championship to Rowan University on penalty kicks after a 0-0 stalemate.
