I am delighted to let you all know that Provost Reichard has allocated resources via the CUNY Coordinated Undergraduate Education (CUE) initiative to fund stipends in support of undergraduate research here at the College again this year. The Provost’s Office provided stipends to 30 students in 2013-2014, 49 students in 2014-2015 and 81 students in 2015-2016. We are hoping that those numbers will increase this year also.
Please find online the information and application form for this year’s Undergraduate Research Stipend program, which should be written by a student with the guidance and approval of a faculty research mentor. All areas of mentored undergraduate scholarship are eligible, and any undergraduate student is welcome to apply. There is no restriction on how the funds may be used by the student–in fact, the stipend check will be sent directly to the student (from the State of New York)–as long as it helps enable the student to conduct scholarship before the end of the Spring 2017 semester.
All recipients of the stipend will be required to present their work at the 2017 CSI Undergraduate Conference on Research, Scholarship, and Performance, which will occur on Thursday, May 4, 2017 in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P). For those of you who are new to the College, this is a great annual event (see the Webpage for last year’s conference) that showcases our students’ learning and hard work.
The application deadline is Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. This date allows enough time for the applications to be reviewed by a faculty committee, and for the stipends to be distributed to the students by February. If you have a research project and/or a student in mind who would be appropriate for this initiative to support CSI student research, please don’t hesitate to encourage your student(s) to apply. The primary administrator and contact for this program is Jonna DeSantis (jonna.desantis@csi.cuny.edu; 718.982.2341). Please feel free to contact Jonna with any questions you may have.
Thank you so much.
