The College of Staten Island’s Frank Schettino and Christina Pasaturo are making habits out of winning weekly awards, and the duo did it for the fourth-consecutive time this week as they earned Player of the Week honors in their respective divisions by the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Both enjoyed undefeated weeks, continuing to blossom their numbers against CUNYAC competition.
Pasaturo stayed in form, running her streak to 15 games in a row with 20+ points. She bagged 23 points with 12 rebounds in a win over Baruch College on the road, adding five assists, then followed with 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in a lop-sided victory over York College. For the week, the junior averaged 23.5 points with 9 rebounds and 4.5 assists and steals. Those numbers helped her raise her seasonal per game marks to 22.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest.
Pasaturo is now 51 points away from becoming the first CSI player in history to record 500+ in back-to-back seasons, and her 1,393 total points are good for fifth all-time. She has now taken the CUNYAC Player of the Week title five times.
Meanwhile Schettino also won his weekly honor for the fifth time. The senior point guard banked 33 points in a slim win on the road against Baruch last week, before narrowly missing a triple-double on Saturday with 13 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds against York College. For the week he averaged 23 points, 9.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds. For the year, he leads the Dolphins with 17.5 ppg., and has a total of 177 assists, the top mark in the nation. He is second nationally with 8.7 assists per game.
The Dolphins are back in action tonight, when they host Medgar Evers College at the Sports & Recreation Center to continue CUNYAC play.
