College of Staten Island freshman slugger Patricia Riches is having a great week.  On the heels of a record-setting weekend doubleheader, Riches was named ECAC Metro NY/NJ Rookie of the Week, the second ECAC honor of her career.  The award comes on the heels of both a CUNYAC Rookie of the Week and Fastpitch News Player of the Week honor for the shortstop.

Riches is batting .656 this season, scoring an improbable 21 hits through just 32 at-bats this season.  She easily leads the team with 16 RBI and four doubles with three home runs.  All three homers came in last Saturday’s doubleheader against Lehman College.  She torched a grand slam homer in the opener, a 16-0 CSI win and then decked two more homers in game two, tying a CSI single game record.  It helped her log seven RBI in the game, a new CSI record as well.

After the weekend tilt, Riches is slugging 1.063 this season, the 17th highest mark in the nation.  Her batting average of .656 ranks third nationally.

CSI Softball gets back to action today when they host Stockton University in their home opener at 5:00pm.
