College of Staten Island men’s soccer freshmen pair Bryant Navarro and Wilson Quintero enjoyed great efforts this past week, earning them weekly honors from the City University of New York Athletic Conference, it was announced today.  Navarro was named the CUNYAC’s Rookie of the Week, while Quintero earned Co-Defender of the Week honors, wrapping up CSI’s 2-0 week that was.  It was the first such honor for both.

Navarro has proven to have a nose for the goal and he showed it in a pair of games last week against New Jersey City University and City College of New York.  Against NJCU in their mid-week encounter, Navarro put in a season-high 49 minutes of work, letting loose on two shots, the second of which came in the first half of a 2-0 CSI win.  Three days later, in CSI’s 4-0 blanking of CCNY, Navarro added another pair of shots and dumped in another goal, this one with less than seven minutes remaining, giving him the team lead with four goals to that point on just 13 shots.  Navarro went on to add a goal in a victory over UVF yesterday, raising his tally to five and giving him goals in three-straight games.

Fellow freshman Wilson Quintero has rarely come off of the pitch this season and with good reason.  Anchoring that back line, he has helped CSI solidify two straight shutouts last week, helping to keep NJCU and CCNY off of the scoreboard while only allowing 10 shots on goal.  Quintero recorded 161 minutes played in total, and leads the team with 560 overall this season.

The Dolphins are 6-1 overall, having won six straight, their longest run since 2003.  They next play on Wednesday, when they travel to Aviator Field to take on York College, Wednesday evening at 6:30pm.
