After a limited week that saw the Dolphins play a lone doubleheader, sophomore John Pomarico was awarded Player of the Week honors by the CUNYAC. The Dolphins went 1-1 on the week, splitting a doubleheader last Monday against the University of Valley Forge.
Pomarico has started all of CSI’s games this season and against Valley Forge started as the designated hitter before moving to third base in the second game, an 11-7 CSI win. Pomarico hit safely in both contests, going 1-for-3 in the opener with a double. In the second game, however, Pomarico exploded and nearly hit for the cycle, scoring a base hit, two doubles, and a homerun, going 4-for-4 at the dish with four RBI with three runs scored. In the field Pomarico scored a put-out and two assists in his three total chances.
For the season, the sophomore is batting .429 (6-14), registering four RBI and four runs scored. He is slugging .857 and boasts a .500 on-base percentage. For Pomarico, the award from the CUNYAC is the first of his career.
The CSI baseball squad is hopeful to return to action this weekend when they are slated to host both the College of Mount Saint Vincent and the University of Maine – Presque Isle in weekend doubleheaders each day.
