I am delighted to announce that, following an extensive national search, Amy Stempler has accepted the permanent position of Associate Dean and Chief Librarian. As most know, Amy has been serving in this position in an interim capacity since August 2017; her permanent position will become effective on Sunday, July 1, 2018, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.
Amy has been a member of the CSI Library faculty since 2008, having been promoted to Associate Professor and tenured in 2015. From 2011 until taking up her duties as Interim Chief Librarian, she served as Coordinator of Library Instruction, in which role she oversaw development and implementation of the College’s first credit-bearing Library course, LIB 102 (Beyond Google: Research for College Success). Prior to coming to CSI, Amy served as a Library Specialist and Library Manager of the Kiev Judaica Collection at George Washington University (2002-2006), Consultant and Guest Curator at the Jewish Museum of New Jersey (2006-2007), and Adjunct Professor and Librarian at Passaic Community College (2007-2008).
Amy received her BA and MA in History from The George Washington University, and her MLIS in Library and Information Science, with a Certificate in Museum Libraries, from Pratt Institute. She is the author of several articles in refereed journals and has made numerous presentations at professional conferences.
In making this announcement, I want also to express sincere appreciation to the search committee that worked hard to ensure the success of this search: Timothy Gray (Chair), Marcus Tye, Mark Lewis, Judy Xiao, Mark Lewental, Saadia Toor, Liqing Tao, Zeno Huang, and student member Sabrina Mines.
I know that you all join me in congratulating Amy Stempler and wishing her well in this important position for the College.
