Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team got back to action this afternoon, driving a short distance to nearby Wagner College as part of non-conference play. On a day when the Seahawks honored their seniors, the home team took a 7-0 win. The loss dipped the Dolphins to 5-4 overall, ending their four-match win streak, while the Seahawks advanced to 12-8.
The match started with doubles, and Wagner wasted no time in racing ahead. The team of Patricio Hernandez-Pons and Dylan Walters led the way at No. 2 with a 6-0 win over CSI’s Andrew Adia and Alex Tsui. Just moments later, Ilya Kneppelhout and Hand Ohmer came off of their court in the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 winner over CSI’s Raymond Hwang and Matthew Vesci. It took a little longer, but in the No. 3 position, Charlton Boyd and Allen Wang proved too much for CSI’s David Luo and Tao Lin by a 6-1 count.
Boyd at No. 2, Kneppelhout at No.4 and Hernandez-Pons at No. 6 were then successful in 6-0, 6-0, wins when it came to singles play. CSI’s Adia fell to Dale Sandy, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 3 position and at No.1, Hwang fell to Eric Poland, 6-1, 6-1. In the final match that was settled, Wang defeated CSI’s Luo, 6-0, 6-1.
CSI will be back in action tomorrow, when they pick up CUNYAC play with a make-up match against York College at 4pm at the CSI Tennis Center.
