After a highly-successful week on the hardwood, College of Staten Island men’s basketball freshman Chamald Martin has earned Rookie of the Week honors from the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  For Martin, it is the first weekly award of his career.

The Dolphins went 1-1 a week ago, dropping a tough home contest to John Jay College before getting right with a big road win at Medgar Evers College.  Martin was a critical piece to the equation in both games.

Due to foul trouble, Martin was used sparingly in the loss to JJC, playing in just 16 minutes.  He was efficient, however, connecting on 3-4 from the floor, finishing with six points and a pair of rebounds, both on the offensive glass.  Three nights later at MEC, Martin was a perfect 5-5 from the floor on his way to a career-high 14 points and six rebounds in CSI’s lopsided win.

For the season, Martin is averaging five points and 4.7 rebounds through nine games in 18.1 average minutes of work per contest.

The Dolphins will continue their schedule tonight, when they face Kean University on the road at 7pm in Union.
