After a tough, 10-2, loss to Christopher Newport University yesterday, the College of Staten Island softball team will now have to win out if they want to advance out of the Union, New Jersey, Regional at Kean University as part of the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. That quest begins today as CSI will face Endicott College in an elimination game at 2:30pm.

Players to Watch (CSI): The Dolphins have a host of talent up and down the lineup and they got some good news this past week with the naming of two major award winners from the CUNYAC. Leading hitter Patricia Riches, who is batting a healthy .540, was named the CUNYAC’s Player of the Year. She leads the way with 62 hits, and boasts a team-best 12 doubles and four triples with 38 RBI, including two in yesterday’s loss to CNU. Sierra Kaplanek was named the Rookie of the Year, coming into the tournament hitting .321 with 35 RBI and tied for a team-high five home runs. Antoinette Galbo is second on the team with a .364 average, placing second on the team with 35 runs scored and leading the way with 13 stolen bases. Doing most of the pitching this weekend will be Jaclyn Kateridge, who comes in having been named the CUNYAC Tournament Most Valuable Player. She is 7-10 with a 4.06 ERA through 99.2 innings and she is also hitting .343 this season.
Players to Watch (EC): Gina DeMitt leads the way for Endicott with a .430 batting average, followed by Lauren Misiaszek is next with .381, followed by Adrianna Favreau’s .364. Misiaszek is second on the team with 37 RBI, behind team leader Jamie Hopgood’s 41. Hopgood is also the team leader with 8 home runs.
News & Notes: Today’s game will be the first-ever between the two sides in softball. The loser of this game will be eliminated from the tournament. The winner will play a 5pm game between the loser of Christopher Newport and Kean University. That game is being played at 12 Noon today. Whoever emerges from the 5pm game will play the winner of the 12 Noon game in tomorrow’s regional championship game at 12 Noon.
