This notice is being issued to remind you, especially during the holiday season, that sexual assault is a crime and “only yes means yes.”
Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault and anyone can be a perpetrator – sexual assault does not just occur between strangers.
Remember, consent to engage in sexual activity must be clear and unambiguous for each participant at every stage of a sexual encounter – and consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Someone not saying “No” should never be interpreted as a “Yes” – again, only yes means yes.
And perhaps the most important reminder during the upcoming festivities: a person who is asleep, or mentally or physically incapacitated due to drugs, alcohol, or for any other reason, is not capable of giving valid consent to engage in sexual activity.

- The CSI Counseling Center offers confidential counseling support and resources. They may be reached at 718.982.2391, including after hours.
In addition, Safe Horizon is a community resource that offers a support line 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800.621.HOPE (4673).
