The First Star CSI Academy presents: Fostering STEM Futures: Bridging the Divide between Tech and Foster Youth through a city-wide endeavor by the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics Open Data Week. The mission of Fostering STEM Futures is to create public awareness of the lack of STEM exposure to foster youth. Through various art media, students will integrate arts and open data to promote the importance of exposing youth in foster care to STEM.
Over the past two years, First Star CSI scholars have participated in an Academy STEM program supported through a generous multi-year grant from the AT&T Foundation acquired through its partnership with the Administration for Children Services. The program’s current and first cohort has participated in culturally relevant and age-appropriate STEM activities, and has gained an enhanced understanding of available opportunities in STEM, familiarity with interactive educational technology, and access to future career development opportunities. The Academy expanded this exposure by creating an opportunity for students to see STEM in action on college campuses during a week-long Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) STEM college tour.
Please come out and support this event and hear from our scholars how STEM exposure has impacted them. RSVP online.
