Please join the Division of Student Affairs for our “What is…” series. This series of conversations regarding racial and social justice will promote awareness and dialogue about the longstanding racial issues that impact our country, state, and Staten Island.

The inaugural presentation is “What is White Privilege?” on Monday, Dec. 7 from 10:00am to noon. We are excited to virtually bring together Dr. Jean Halley, Professor of Sociology at CSI, and her colleague, Dr. Amy Eshleman, Professor of Psychology at Wagner College, as they engage our community in a meaningful and timely discussion.

Dr. Halley and Dr. Eshleman, in collaboration with Ramya Vijaya, co-authored the book Seeing White: Using the Lens of White Privilege to Identify How Racism Is Everyone’s Issue, now in its second printing. Through the lens of social justice, the authors will discuss how social policies tend to support and fortify those in power while continuing to oppress those who are not.

The event moderator, Amin Shikupilway, is a graduate of CUNY and is currently working as an Adjunct Instructor in the Sociology and Anthropology Department at CSI.

More information is available online.

We look forward to your participation in this series.
