Winnie Brophy

Winnie Brophy was awarded the Edward S. Blankenship Outstanding Staff Award at the 35th Annual International Conference of the Phi Beta Delta, held virtually May 24 and 25. The Edward S. Blankenship Outstanding Staff Award is given for superior scholastic achievements, outstanding leadership, efforts to promote excellence in global education, and support of the development and activities of a local chapter of Phi Beta Delta.  

Brophy has been instrumental in the success of the Eta Lambda Chapter of the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars at CSI and currently serves as the Chapter Coordinator. As a founding member of the Eta Lambda chapter, she is proud to be steward for the only chapter within the CUNY system, the largest public urban university in the United States. In this role, she is committed to encouraging other CUNY schools to establish chapters of Phi Beta Delta. Brophy is a member of the Board of Directors and currently serves as the Senior International Vice President for Phi Beta Delta, having previously served a term as International President for the organization in 2018-2019. 

At CSI, Brophy has managed logistics for international visitors, special projects, and global initiatives for the Center and the College for 17 years. She is also the club advisor for the Japanese Visual Cultural Club. She served as the coordinator of the College’s Pluralism & Diversity Program for seven years, developing and implementing diversity programs for the campus community. Prior to working at CSI, Winnie worked at the Council of East Asian Studies at Yale University. She received her MA in Urban Education and BS in Cultural Geography from Southern Connecticut State University.  

Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars is an academic and professional society, unique because of its interdisciplinary and international nature. The Society’s mission is to recognize achievement in international educational interchange and to serve as a catalyst to increase the recognition, credibility, and importance of the international experience, and develop a network of individuals involved in international experiences.
