An ode to the life of Arnie Kantrowitz, retired professor at the College of Staten Island who was lost at the age of 81 due to complications of COVID, was featured in today’s New York Times. Reporter Sam Roberts chronicled Kantrowitz’ journey as a trailblazer for gay rights and activism, including his time at CSI when he was named chair of the English department in 1999. Retired in 2006, he introduced one of the earliest gay studies courses at CSI. A tribute and memorial service for Kantrowitz is currently being planned at the College in March.
