The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs has named the College of Staten Island and five other CUNY institutions as 2023 Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Leaders. For CUNY, this number represents the most of any university system in the nation. The selected institutions were among a cohort of 46 colleges and universities recognized by the federal government’s flagship international academic exchange program.

“I am pleased to see that the College of Staten Island has been recognized as a leader in international education. We are proud to be a 2023 Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution and we look forward to making continued academic connections throughout the world through this program, in tandem with the global network of study abroad and visiting scholar opportunities that the College provides.” commented CSI President Timothy G. Lynch.

The Fulbright HSI Leaders Initiative encourages administrators, faculty, and students at HSIs to engage with the Fulbright Program and highlights the strength of those schools as destinations for international students and scholars in the program. In addition to sending U.S. students and scholars abroad, recognized Fulbright HSI Leaders host international Fulbrighters, such as Fulbright Scholars-in-Residence and Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants who teach in classrooms at HSIs.
