Flow is an essential feature of life. Take water. It finds its most natural expression when it flows. Electricity, too. We humans, moving through our lives, find flow exciting, exhilarating, electrifying. Showing us how to “sing with the body,” visiting artist, Jean-Marc Aeschimann demonstrates that music—the audible embodiment of flow—can help us achieve greater flow in our individual actions and interactions with one another when we, in turn, embody that flow through movement. An expert in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, as well as a composer, conductor, and architect, Jean-Marc Aeschimann, gives improvisation concerts and leads workshops around the world. His approach, based on the fundamental principles of Dalcroze pedagogy—grounding and movement of the body, and improvisation—helps people reconnect with what music really is: a means of expression and communication. Come dressed comfortably, ready to kick off your shoes and move through the Dance Studio (where wearing shoes is not allowed).
Presenter: Jean-Marc Aeschimann, Dalcroze Diplôme Supérieur; Emeritus Dean, Institut Jaques-Dalcroze, Genève; Professor Emeritus, Haute école de musique de Genève. In collaboration with the Department of Performing and Creative Arts and the Center for Global Engagement.
