The Bertha Harris Women’s Center at CSI presents: Bertha’s Summer of Love 2024
Come learn relaxing stitching that reflects the history of women’s textiles around the world. You will learn a bit about each tradition and then make your own version inspired by it. All basic supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary. Cookies, coffee and tea will be provided: Feel free to bring a brown bag or treats to share.
These workshops are for everyone (staff, students, and faculty) — especially for those of us in our offices over the summer while our friends are at the beach relaxing. Come stitch in community and let off some steam (no College or student fees have been used for supplies).
Schedule (all Wednesdays):
June 12: Visible Mending and Button Sewing: Boro-inspired patching and mending (Japan)
June 26: Kantha-inspired Needlebook (India)
July 10: Biscornu pincushion (France)
July 17: “Log Cabin” piecing (U.S.)
July 24: “Courthouse Steps” piecing (U.S.)
August 7: Manx-style quilting (Isle of Man)
August 14: Kawandi-inspired quilting (Africa/India)
We are also collecting any unwanted clothing/linens to be recycled for use in workshops. Please bring them along or drop them at the Women’s Center, Wednesdays, 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Thursdays, 10:00am to 2:00pm, all summer long.
