Colleagues:
As you may know, November 8 is the national First-Generation College Student Celebration. The day commemorates the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965 which created programs of federal financial funding for limited income first-generation college students. Last year, we hosted a campus wide celebration bringing together faculty, staff, alumni, and students (many first-generation college students themselves). This year, we will be offering various events for our first-generation students in a week-long celebration. To kick off the week, as part of Giving Tuesday, we have added the First-Generation College Student Fund; please consider contributing to support our students.
We hope to see you at our second annual celebration on Tuesday, November 12 during club hours; all are invited to show support of our CSI first-geners.
Until next time,
Timothy G. Lynch, Ph.D. (he/him/his)
President, College of Staten Island
