On January 2, 2025, CSI will join 16 other CUNY colleges in using the new Learning Management System (LMS), Brightspace by D2L.  Moving forward, all academic courses will be hosted in Brightspace.  

The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Professional Development would like to share the following links and information to assist you in preparing your course shells or organizations.  

  • Take advantage of the CUNY webinar sessions that includes sessions on:
    • Getting Started with Brightspace
    • Engaging Learners
    • Getting Started with Quizzes
    • Advanced Gradebook Overview
    • And more…
  • Use this one-page checklist from D2L Brightspace to ensure that your course (or organization) is in good shape before you activate it on Jan 2nd (or Jan 25th).
  • Organizations were safely transferred/migrated on Dec 27th.  To leaders of organizations, please log in (https://brightspace.cuny.edu) and browse through.  RSVP for informational sessions on navigating through Organizations on Jan 8 at 11am OR Jan 9 at 1pm.
  • Explore and learn from our 3-min videos that include:
    • Communicating with learners (e.g. Creating emails, announcements, etc)
    • Uploading content (e.g. Syllabus, or any document)
    • Creating assignments and discussion forums
    • Assessing learners (e.g., creating quizzes, tests, etc.)
  • Schedule a 25-min one-on-one session to work on specific topics e.g., setting up quizzes, setting up your gradebook, refining your discussion forum, etc.)

  • FAQs: Use this LINK to browse the through frequently asked questions.  You might just find several answers to ideas you were thinking about but had yet to formulate the question. Questions are categorized for “general questions,” “faculty & staff,” and “students.”

We look forward to a new chapter of using Brightspace and to starting the Winter intersession/Spring semester with a faster, mobile-friendly, more reliable system for students, instructors, and staff at CSI.
