The College of Staten Island’s ranking in StudyAbroad.com’s World University Rankings has increased over the past year. In 2024, CSI was in the top 58% of the 8,027 ranked colleges. In 2025, the College placed in the top 37% out of the 8,536 institutions assessed. StudyAbroadAide.com notes that this significant increase in rank “highlights the [College’s] commitment to academic excellence and rising appeal to international students. This achievement is greatly beneficial to students looking for a high-quality institution abroad that caters to diverse communities and has proven global influence.”
CSI President Timothy G. Lynch commented, “We are proud of the study abroad opportunities offered to our students and the services we provide to our international student body. The elevation of our ranking by studyabroadaide.com underscores the value we place on these services and the incredible experiences that studying abroad has to offer.”
Stephen Ferst, Director of CSI’s Center for Global Engagement, commented, “At CSI, we pride ourselves on being the students’ Bridge to Success, ensuring that our international students are given a high-quality education and have opportunities to contribute to the academic and social life at the College. Our international students are involved in all aspects of campus activities from joining clubs to holding office in student government to engaging in research with CSI’s faculty at the undergraduate and graduate levels, all while bringing valuable international and culture experience to the student body. Our international alumni have gone on to work for many of the most influential businesses in NYC and beyond by contributing even more to the U.S. It is an honor to find ourselves recognized as a rising institutional destination for students from around the world.”
In explaining its methodology, the Website says, “The World University Rankings take into account both the percentage of the international student population and the institution’s academic reputation. These two metrics are used to determine the scores of each institution, followed by the ranking process.”
Study abroad opportunities for both CSI students and those from abroad are facilitated by the CSI Center for Global Engagement. Its mission is to promote the internationalization of academic life at the College of Staten Island in order to foster an awareness of the interdependence of nations, the value of diversity, and the importance of international understanding. The Center promotes internationalization across the campus through innovative programming in study abroad, specialized programs, international student and scholar support, the English Language Institute, and on-campus programming that brings the larger world to the CSI community.
