We are writing to share an opportunity for students of all backgrounds and majors to learn the basics of generative AI from folks in industry. If you feel it is relevant to your students, I hope that you will consider sharing it with them.

Volunteers coordinated by NY Jobs CEO Council are leading a five-part Gen AI workshop series Fridays from 10:00am to noon from Mar. 7 through Apr. 4 at BMCC (199 Chambers St., Room N-452). Students will:

  • Learn how Gen AI works and how it may be perpetuate bias
  • Get hands-on experience with tools to understand uses and limitations
  • Build a project and present it to a panel of industry experts
  • Network with industry volunteers and panelists
  • Receive a digital badge of completion from the NY Jobs CEO Council

While the true costs and benefits of gen AI are inseparable from the “hype,” I wanted to share this opportunity with you because the first round of students to participate in the fall reported the workshops were welcoming learning environments, encouraged them to explore and play with AI tools, and increased their confidence in questioning the technologies.

An informational flyer and a document with email text is online to share the opportunity with students.

Please feel free to forward this email to any colleagues. Please see this FAQs document or contact Aankit Patel at aankit.patel@cuny.edu with questions.
