As the spring semester comes to a close most students on campus are looking forward to taking their remaining finals.

With summer approaching, students are trying to focus on their remaining coursework and final exams, and are especially preparing to get back their final grades for the semester. Throughout the last few weeks, all the time spent with study strategies, reviews for finals, and memorizing information can be put to the test.

Semesters can be long and finishing certain course material can become crucial throughout the late stages of a semester, which could demand a lot of your time. One CSI student, Ethan, said he had just recently changed from a Chemistry major to Business and has been preparing for his upcoming finals.

“With analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, or calculus, the courses are too much so I just recently got my new schedule for next semester,” he said. “I haven’t taken any finals yet, but I’ve been going over class notes, reviewing documents that my professors posted, and looking at articles and finding out different ways to memorize formulas.”

Computer Science major Mohamed Amara who still has more finals to take, had already taken one that he prepared for by staying up all night.

“I just came from a final and I was prepared. My professor gave us a review last night that was about six hours of study, and I just stayed up all night studying. I didn’t even have enough rest but I think I did well.”

Aida, a first-year student who is taking five classes and majoring in Nursing, was used to her grades being higher before college. Considering her early academic career, she’s still glad to have passed with good grades and has one more final left to pass for her Nursing Fundamentals class.

“For finals, I literally spend all day in my room studying. Sometimes I’ll meet up with a friend or Facetime a friend and info-dump my topic on them while they pretend to care,” she said.

Other students are also utilizing studying methods that have been more common lately like feeding ChatGPT information to quiz themselves. Joe LaBarbera and Adham are seniors majoring in Computer Science who had just finished their last final exam and are looking forward to their final semester in the fall.

“I’m taking all major courses now, which are courses I’m purely interested in, so getting through it is easier than taking random prerequisite courses,” said LaBarbera. “I was stressed the whole semester but I’m glad it’s almost over. The workload was a lot to manage,” said Adham.

The last few weeks of a semester are important, especially dealing with multiple classes. It can be a lot to focus on and it’s easy to overwork yourself but even the smallest effort is important. Whatever studying method works best for you during final exams, make some time in your schedule for some of our basic needs like sleep and self-care.
