Please join the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and the Bertha Harris Women’s Center for an engaging and informative discussion about feminist theology, open to all people of all faiths.
The Rev. Kirstin Swanson, an Episcopal priest, will share her knowledge about the rich and ongoing discussion among theologians, clergy, and laity of many faiths about the role that gender plays in our understanding of God.
God has long been imagined as male. Titles such as “lord” and “father” and the use of “he” as the main pronoun for God obscure the ways in which, throughout the centuries, biblical writers and Christian mystics have imagined God as female. This workshop will introduce you to some of those images and explore the implications of a God that is not exclusively male.
The event will take place on Thursday, May 1 from 10:00am to noon in Building 2N, Room 220.
The Rev. Kirstin Swanson is an Episcopal priest, serving as the Missioner for Staten Island, where she supports parishes as they explore challenging issues and engage in new collaborations. Ordained as a priest in 2023, Kirstin is a native Staten Islander and lifelong New Yorker. When she’s not working, you can find her planning what to plant in her garden, supporting her kids in their musical and artistic pursuits, or gaming with friends and family.
