We are pleased to inform you that the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is open and actively accepting applications for the 2026-2027 academic year. The application deadline is Monday, Sept. 15, 2025. CSI has had great success with our Fulbright awards, and two of our faculty members will be participating in the program in the coming year. All eligible faculty are welcome to apply. There are also opportunities for administrators.
We understand from IIE (the organization that administers U.S. Scholar Fulbrights) that there is some uncertainty involved in the program at this time. At this juncture, they are accepting applications and strongly encouraging interested faculty and staff to participate. It is acknowledged that applicants run the risk of the program facing possible cuts or cancellations next year, a realistic concern. But the upside is that there are far fewer applicants and the odds of being awarded a Fulbright are much higher.
The Fulbright program was founded in 1946. It has supported research, scholarship, and academic exchanges in partnership with more than 160 countries for nearly eight decades. It is funded primarily by the U.S. Congress in its annual appropriations to the State Department. Even if you do not participate in the program, we urge you to voice support for its continued existence with your elected officials at all levels.
We serve as the liaisons for the Fulbright program for faculty and staff. If you know a student who might be interested in and eligible for a student Fulbright, please put them in touch with Michele Callahan (michele.callahan@csi.cuny.edu). Please consult the Fulbright Website and contact us if you’d like more information.
