The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) has issued a memorandum concerning upcoming control efforts to reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile Virus in the Bronx and Staten Island.

As part of this initiative, DOHMH will conduct adulticiding treatments—targeted spraying of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)- and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC)-approved pesticides—to reduce mosquito activity in designated areas of both boroughs (please refer to the online map for specific locations).

Please be advised, the College falls within the planned spray zone. DOHMH has contacted our office to coordinate and ensure proper notification.

Spraying around the campus perimeter, particularly near wooded areas, is scheduled for 1:00am on Thursday, July 31. This timing was chosen to minimize exposure, as most campus constituents will be off-site. Night shift essential personnel and dormitory residents should stay indoors when possible during spraying.

For further details and safety guidance, please review the online DOHMH memorandum and public notice. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Environmental Health and Safety Office at 718.982.4300.
