We are writing to inform you of a deeply troubling incident that occurred in Building 6S. On Aug. 4, 2025, a symbol resembling a swastika was found etched on the wall of a stairway. This matter was immediately referred to the New York Police Department (NYPD) in accordance with our established protocols. Following their investigation, the incident has been classified as a hate crime.
This act is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. There is absolutely no place for hate in our institution. We are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members of our community.
We extend our sincere thanks to the faculty member who promptly reported this to our Public Safety Department, and we appreciate the swift and professional response of the NYPD. The offensive marking has been removed.
We ask that if anyone witnesses or becomes aware of a hate crime or any similar incident on our campus, they report it to Public Safety immediately. Timely reporting is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
CSI strongly condemns the hateful vandalism. The NYPD is currently investigating and the University will not hesitate to enforce disciplinary actions if any member of the community is found responsible.
We understand that incidents like this can be distressing. Students seeking emotional support are encouraged to contact the Counseling Center at 718.982.2391, where counselors are available 24/7. Faculty and staff may contact the Employee Assistance Program, CCA@YourSide, at 800.833.8707.
Let us continue to stand together against hate and uphold the values of respect, dignity, and unity that define our campus.
