The College of Staten Island will host its 19th Annual Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day on Wednesday, November 19, from 12-4pm in the CSI Library – Room 220A, with a virtual attendance option via Zoom. This year’s theme, “Resilient Landscapes: Designing with Nature in Mind,” invites students, faculty, staff, and alumni to explore how GIS technology is shaping a more sustainable, climate-resilient world.

GIS Day at CSI brings together experts from academia, government, and industry, offering attendees firsthand insight into how spatial data drives decisions in environmental science, engineering, computer science, sustainability, and beyond. Featured speakers include:

  • Dr. Richard Lathrop (Keynote), Rutgers University
  • Dr. Bo Yang, UC Santa Cruz
  • Dr. Alan Benimoff, CUNY College of Staten Island
  • Sean Thatcher, CUNY College of Staten Island
  • Stephanie Rodriguez, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection
  • Taimur Gul, Con Edison
  • Noam Aharon, HNTB Consulting

The event will highlight professional pathways in GIS and provide valuable information about upcoming research projects, internship opportunities, and collaborations with organizations such as NJDEP, Con Edison, and HNTB Consulting. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with professionals, fellow students, and alumni who apply GIS in their everyday work—strengthening CSI’s growing geospatial community and its ties across CUNY.

Free refreshments will be provided. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni who plan to join via Zoom must register by today to receive the link.
