With so many emails arriving each day, it is easy for important updates and exciting campus activities to get overlooked. To help your messages reach the right audience, and to support clear, consistent communications across the College, we are sharing a few most effective methods and reminders.
Promoting Events
The CSI Events page serves as our central hub for campus activities. Events posted here automatically appear in the weekly events email sent every Monday, helping increase visibility and participation.
You can submit an event using the “Submit an Event” link on the CSI homepage or by accessing the portal online.
To ensure your event is posted correctly and on time, please:
- Provide all requested information and complete all required fields.
- Include a contact name/phone number and both start and end times.
- Include full URLs for any required registration or additional details.
- Allow at least 48 hours for your event to appear. If you are submitting closer to the event date, please submit online and email events@csi.cuny.edu for expedited review.
- For news release submissions to CSI Today, CSI’s e-news magazine, please contact David Pizzuto (david.pizzuto@csi.cuny.edu) or Terry Mares (terry.mares@csi.cuny.edu) in the Office of Communications. (Note: all events submitted to the calendar are automatically populated on CSI Today as well).
- For Social Media, posting requests can be made using the online submission form, located online.
Broadcast Emails
Units with broadcast email privileges are encouraged to review their internal practices to avoid message fatigue. Consider consolidating routine updates into monthly newsletters or digests so that high-priority messages can stand out and reach the community more effectively.
Student Communications via Navigate
Navigate remains a powerful way to share timely, relevant messages with students. Please see the guidelines below for most effective methods to ensure communications are clear, aligned, and supportive of student success.
The Navigate platform may be used to send students emails and text messages that support engagement, retention, and academic success. Text messages, limited to a specified number of characters, are delivered to the student’s CUNYfirst-listed mobile number. Emails, similar in format to Outlook messages, are delivered to the student’s campus email account. All communications sent through Navigate are stored within the profiles of both the student and the sender. These messages are included in Navigate’s Student Activity Analytics and are monitored by the Office of Student Success/Navigate App Admin.
Messaging should be limited to student-related purposes, such as appointment reminders, faculty or adviser outreach, and targeted program communications. Users with Adviser or Faculty Adviser access should not use Navigate to send mass, College-wide, commercial, or non–College-related messages.
When communicating with specific student groups, users are strongly encouraged to apply appropriate filters within the advanced search feature to ensure accurate targeting. Message frequency should not exceed three communications per month. For assistance or training on Navigate’s advanced search and messaging tools, please contact the Office of Student Success or the Navigate App Admin.
Thank you for your continued commitment to keeping our campus informed, connected, and engaged.
