The College of Staten Island will welcome prominent legal scholar Julie C. Suk for a special Spring 2026 lecture hosted by the CSI Legal Studies Institute. Titled “After Misogyny: How the Law Fails Women and What to Do about It,” the event will take place on Monday, March 23, at 4:30pm in the Center for the Arts, Williamson Theater.
Suk, a Professor of Law at the Fordham University School of Law, is a leading expert on gender and constitutional law in the United States and internationally. She is the author of We the Women: The Unstoppable Mothers of the Equal Rights Amendment, and her work explores how legal systems can better address structural gender inequality.
During the lecture, Suk will examine how existing legal frameworks often fall short in protecting women from misogyny and discrimination, and she will discuss pathways for meaningful reform. The talk is expected to engage students, faculty, and community members interested in law, public policy, gender studies, and social justice.
The event is co-sponsored by the CSI Student Pre-Law Club, the Department of Political Science and Global Affairs, the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, the Bertha Harris Women’s Center, the African and African American Diaspora Studies Program, and the Department of Sociology/Anthropology. CLUE credit will be available, and a reception will follow the lecture.
The CSI Legal Studies Institute regularly brings distinguished scholars and practitioners to campus to foster discussion around contemporary legal issues and public policy. This lecture continues that tradition by providing the campus community with an opportunity to engage with one of the leading voices on gender equality and constitutional law.
The lecture will also be live-streamed via CSI-TV, allowing members of the campus and broader community to participate remotely.
